    TJM wheel arch flares

    Hi All,
I recently bought my first Pajero, an NL glx 2.8Ltr which is basically stock. I'd like to put bigger wheels on it (currently 15x6) so I'm considering putting wheel arch flares on so I have more choice of tyre size and offset. I don't want to fit massive wheels probably just 16x7s rims with some decent rubber.

Does anyone have any experience with the TJM deluxe wheel arch flares for a Gen2? Do they fit well? look good? I've been quoted ~$700 for a set so I want some confirmation that they are worth it before buying them. Are there better options for flares?

Also, assuming that I get some 16x7 sunraysia rims, does anyone know the best offset for the NL without flares. Keeping in mind that I want it look better by filling out the guards but still legal.

Any advice or comments on experiences would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    hey man,

I use 15x8 sunraisias with landcruiser offset, not sure of numbers. 31x10.5 tyres. they do stick out the guards about 30mm but a few meters of 50mm flare rubber (with wire insert) for 60 bucks fix that.

you wont fit any bigger than 32 inch without a body lift because of rubbing tyres on front at full lock

    cheers,

            G'day.

I run Maxxis Buckshot 265/75 on sunraysia (Desert Rat) 16 x 7 rims.
Offset is +10 and they sit dead level with the gaurd. ie no need for flares.
            Hope this helps.

              Thanks for your input guys.

Alex76, The wheel arches were supply only I believe. The price of the ARB flares seems more reasonable. How do they attach to the car? Do they fit well?

Done some more reading regarding wheels/tyres and apparently it's not legal in SA to fit wheels more than 15mm larger in diameter than the largest configuration on the tyre placard. For my glx the placard says 235/75r15 so that doesn't leave me with many options to stay legal. Should I worry about staying within this limit or do I need to get approval through registration office.

I'd ideally like to put 265/75r16 on or at least 31/10.5/15 but if I understand correctly neither of these will be technically legal.

              Any advice?

Not sure, they may have? The legal statement only references the tyre placard not the largest size in that model.

                    Hey Pajenaro,
Your wheels look like what I hoped to achieve, only with black rims. Thanks for the picture & info, it helps a lot. It looks like you raised the front a bit, was that due to rubbing or just to level it out?

from what i can see( i havent fitted mine yet and i only have one corner to fit ) its a matter of drilling and pop rivetting under the inner mudguard

i might tackle it on the weekend

I'd get the wheels and tyres first, then see if you really need flares. Mine's an NH GLX without flares and runs 31x10.5R15's on GLS alloys. Only the sidewall bulge sticks out past the guards. "Technically", as long as the tread is covered, it's roadworthy, and I'd rather keep $700 for something else rather than flares.

                              G'day,
when I fitted new springs and trosion bars (2in lift) I made sure to level it out nicely. I was actually running the 265/75's before the lifted springs were put in and have never had issues with rubbing.

FWIW - the GLS and exceed model NL's had 265/70R16 as factory standard.

                              Cheers
