Hi all.
Those of you that also view the 4wd action forums will probably have seen my challenger on there, but i thought i may as well show her off on here as well.
She is a 2002 Auto that , when i bought her about 14 months ago was pretty much stock standard. In the first 3-4 months she cost me a bloody fortune ( several thousand dollars )with repeated oil leaks and other problems, and i was VERY close to cutting my lossess and getting rid of her. Thankfully i stuck with her, and then the mods started. Its certainly been a challenge getting them , as im sure your all aware. The number of times that i have been asked why i didnt get a toyota or nissan can be summed up in the reasons given to me by various 4wd shops that i cannot fit a snorkel to my challenger is that , apparently
1. we cannot use a snorkel that is marketed for another model, i.e triton, because it will void the warranty and you might sue us.
2. the lights on the 2002 model wrap around the sides slightly further than the lights on earler , or later models so the snorkels wont fit along the body.
3. they dont make snorkels for challengers.
4 you should just get rid of it and get a cruiser or patrol, then we can sell you a snorkel
5. challengers arent supposed to be used for real offroading.
But being a stubborn bugger i have kept hassling everyone and reading as much on the forums as i could and have added some mods that i think really add to her performance as my every day car as well as our family camping/kayaking bus. Here are some of them, in no particular order.....
Have finally got a dual battery system fitted under the hood , despite being told repeatedly that there simply wasnt room
As you can see in the back of the pic, the Diff breathers have also been fitted
fitted some LED lights to the Awning
Of course there has to be a long handled shovel holder on there somewhere....
and altered the rear cargo barrier, and removed the factory storage area in preparation for some drifta drawers / kitchen to be fitted.....
bought some max trax for when i finally get a day off to go to the beach......
and can now take the kayaks to the beach as well due to the three rhino rack kayak holders fitted
finally got a snorkel to add to the list of completed mods
and picked up a reat rear wheel / dual jerry can/ high lift jack carrier. The best thing about this is that its removable, so when im not using it it goes into the garage.
Its the attention to little details that have impressed me with this unit. For instance, there are two holes that the locking pin in the tow bar connector that can be used. This is the first. The second i will use when i am not using jerry cans, bringing the whole unit closer to the car.
So far the list of extras i have added is -
Lightforce Spoties,Alloy Bullbar,UHF,OME Suspension,Steel Rims,Bridgesone Dueller A/T Tyres,Cargo Barrier,Heavy Duty Rhino Track/Rail Roof Rack, Rhino Roof Basket, TJM Awning with Korr LED lights attached, Rear Wheel/Jerrycan Holder, Dual Battery, Diff Breathers, and the TJM airtec snorkel.
I also have a set of buskinz underbody plates sat in my garage once i dicover where the oil is leaking from (again) and have a long range tank being made for her at the moment that should be fitted by mid June ready for a few weekend trips. Then it will be time to get the drifta kitchen fitted , with drop slide and fridge straight after that.
Now i have a dilema....Should i move on to the next modification, or pay off the car loan. The sensible thing to do would be pay off the car loan......but there are still so many things i want to add to her ....
Any how, that my girl......shes not perfect ( she certainly likes a drink) but i love her, and in my opinion she looks better than any of the nissans or toyotas in the local car park( yes i know im biased) ......and i particularly like the way people look at her and then say....."its a challenger?"....with a surprised look on their face
