And Ford policy is to do nothing and leave it to insurance companies!!!!! Now if that does not say our consumer laws are junk, I am not sure what will????

Is this Australia's version of the 1970s US Ford Pinto debacle? The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that 27 deaths were attributed to Pinto fires.

And more than 40 years down the track, Ford is still trying to distance itself from any inherent design faults in their vehicles by refusing any recall of the Everest. Unbelievably bad PR.

Maybe they have an particular issue or it could have been something as simple as spinifex grass that hadnt been cleared. Given the coverage id say fords engineers and maybe some component suppliers will be busy up till christmas. From the few rangers that have gone up It looks like it may be related to voltage overload of circuit may stay open/on when car is off.

Id say even if this not something that requires a recall it would be best if they manage it with a recall however contrived to solve current and potential customer anxiety.

most insurance companies on receipt of a fire claim will dependand on circumstance lean on the manufacturer for recompense particularly if its new under warranty and a total loss.

I think we would all be surprised at how many vehicles are lost to fire. I think Prados got a bit of ....heat when the 120 came out in south africa for being lost to grass pickup around the exhaust. Not sure if or how that was solved. I think a few have even done spontaneous whilst parked thing.

Oh wow. Top Gear is now making advertisements

For the next "real world test" it will be dropped off the Sydney Harbour Bridge to demonstrate its ability to survive a night out on the town

Simple question, vehicle at GVM what is its legal towing capacity??????

So far been driven in new HiLux, Colorado, and Ranger all 4x4. Ranger wins hands down in the most car like experience. Colorado a distant last.

Be interested on the Ford Explorer reports from real owners, including ones that brought the combustible model.

You are comparing a UTE with an SUV. The UTE is designed to carry more weight itself which adds to the gross combined mass.
