You could always use one of these with the probe mounted near it to keep an eye on what the engine bay temps are doing in that area,

If you have a NW with a smart alternator nothing but a BC/DC charger will raise your second battery to full voltage.
I tried an isolator and only 11 volts could be achieved in the second battery, installed the readarc-14 volts.

Then there was something seriously wrong with the Isolator installation - which should have been fixed.

I've been charging batteries in the rear of the NX with Smart Alternator with no problems. The battery NEVER drops below 13 volts.

Maybe there were problems with the NW Smart Alternator - being the first implementation - that were fixed in the NX, just like the early NS DPF Implementations were terrible, then improved to only be "bad".

Ours is mounted on the aux battery bracket like Angus 4032 and we have done 2 trips to the top end in july/august and have had no trouble.

Cheer's shoey.

Im pretty sure that is correct - NW v NX alternators behave very differently

What is the most number of Anderson plugs you could have in this setup? Would it be possible to have one under the bonnet, one at the rear for the camper and one in the internal rear?

Not sure I understand your question.....you can hook as many andersons as you like.

I have 3 in the rear fed from my aux bat and one direct from the dc/dc for solar input. One at the towbar fed from the starter. Have been thinking about one on the bull bar direct to the starter as well for ac and solar charging purposes, but I still need to go under bonnet to kill the dc/dc feed (otherwise I'm charging both batteries), so its sorta mute putting that one in.

Curious.....how so? does the NW dip lower and more often?

I found with the NX just running the cabin fan full time tricks the alternator into a voltage above dc/dc turn on threshold values for the majority of the time. Enough so that I didn't need to wire my dc/dc as an ignition variant.

Waiting for the flame, but IMO, if you run AGM, then go dc/dc. Your battery will love it. Wet cell is not so specific.

My auto electrician/solar specialists put my Redarc up under the passenger side dash against the fire wall. Still close to the battery but away from the heat and in the summer has the aircon. Has been working perfectly for 3 years.

If your NW has a smart alternator the solenoid method will not work effectively, you need the Dc charger to get full voltage to the second battery.
Heaps of info on this site re this.
