    Oil Catch Can

Has any one fitted an Oil Catch Can? I have a 2015 Exceed, will this benefit the car in the long term and what is the best one to fit.

A must do mod in reality. Do a forum search for Provent 200 and you will find heaps of info.

          Hey Rossco

I was recently talking with HPD (High Performance Diesel) at Melrose Pk and they have their own Catch Can they can supply and fit

            Agree with all above.
The reason for the catch can is to collect (catch) the oil vapour. Oil vapour when mixed with hot gases causes carbon buildup in the intake manifold, which slowly chokes the engine as it builds up. In my retired NP, after a 200,000km my intake was 30% blocked.

It's the same reason people disable the EGR system, so the hot air doesn't get passed into the intake to mix with the oil vapour.

Hence two ways of attacking the problem 1; oil catch can - legal and accepted modification by dealers, and 2. EGR block - illegal and frowned upon by dealers
(disclaimer: dealer comment is my personal experience and may be not representative of all dealers)

I have a HPD catch can in my NX, and a Provent in my cruiser.

Has anyone had their inlet manifold cleaned before fitting a catch can? How many kms before this is an issue? (I have a 2016 NX with almost 80,000km). Cheers

                      Blocked up

Manifold coked at about 120k km, oil can fitted about 4500km ago, just emptied the drain tonight, thick black oil vapour which would have baked back onto the manifold.

Provent 200 should be a standard from new.

I'd like to see some engine interiors that have had a catch can fitted for 120,000km. Real cars, real drivers.

I wish I had removed and checked my 2005 NP manifold before I sold the car. 280,000 km without a catch can. Still performing well.
Having said that I installed one on my new NX.

I had mine cleaned at 58k there was about 5 to 10 mm around the whole inlet. I didn't get photos. I now have a catch can on, provent 200 I did have the get disabled but felt it made the car run rougher so took it off

I have had my EGR device and HPD catch can on since 5,000 km and I'm at 151,000 now but I don't think I want to pull everything apart just to look?

Catch can oil residue is clean, performance still seems ok.
Anything else I should look for?
