Yes sorry orange c/d light flashes..... And if i select 4wd high and low all lights will flash instead of staying solid.. I have to turn the car off then on again for them to stay solid
'Mechanic'.....is a broad term.
A lot of 'mechanics' are really just a parts / fluids exchanger who rely heavily if not fully on a computer to tell them what's wrong. This isn't just most mechanics, but a lot of trades nowadays, and technology is to blame.
There is no way i'd take my Pajero to the local Mitsubishi dealer to have anything done, unless I wanted to have additional stuff broken when I got it back.
An independant mechanic has to have a broad knowledge on everything, so the forums is the best way to gain more valuable information.
Many on the forum wish to fix things that can be fixed , or solve the problem by finding the cause and fixing that, not taking it to said 'mechanic' so he can fix the symptom by replacing a component at a much higher cost, to then have that component fail again at a later date because it wasn't the cause of the initial problem.
The other thing I have found over the years is that a decent mechanic will take on board what you have found out on the forum, sometimes even looking there themselves for answers, and is happy to admit he is unfamiliar with certain issues. Where as other said parts replacers seem to get offended when you question or disagree with their opinions.....as often all they are are opinions, and are not based on actual work or knowledge they may have gained due to work performed on said vehicle.
I've had a disagreement with a very renowned local mechanic over a few special features on a car I own, with which I drove daily, had multiple of them, and knew the car pretty much backwards, but still he wanted to tell me how this and that worked, what was causing my problem ( which it wasn't ) and arguing the point with me. After a good ten minutes of to and fro, he then tells me he has never worked on my particular model of car, and with that I removed the car from the hoist and drove away. If I had a hoist and time I would do the work myself.
Well said. Bizarrely, I've found the exact same with doctors! Run blood test, comes back clear (as if there is a test for every issue) and then proceed to tell you that there is nothing wrong with you. Even been called a hypochondriac.......
It's one of the reasons I do everything myself. I only pay when it legally needs someone else to do, and often I then I'll redo it to make sure it's right, like lpg installation. Once it's got the the compliance plate it's all mine
The first check I'd do is check the vacuum solenoids located under the air box.
There're a few posts in the forum on how to check this and on the other things to look at.
Mine had the same problem and found out to be a bad solenoid.
You can try applying 12v current to the two solenoids, and listen to a low volume pulsating sound. If you are not getting that sound from one of the two, the solenoids need to be replaced. This is the easiest diy fix as far as I know.
