    Cleaning 6G74 injectors

    Hi all,

Am about to pull injectors out to give them a clean to help fault find very rough acceleration and running at low revs. ( also changing O2 sensor and leads and plugs )

I have seen method where you put a syringe on end of injector and pulse with 12 volts while spraying throttle body cleaner through.

Does anyone know what size syringe? I can't find thread this was posted in.

you are taking a big risk by trying to clean the fuel injectors without having the correct machine. take the injectors out and get a specialist to pro clean them.

I would be very wary about applying 12V to the injectors. I don't know for sure, but I would expect something like 5 V as the operating voltage. Also, where do you put the syringe? The only way to clean the injectors would be to back flush it squirt thru the outlet of the injector.

Years ago, when petrol injection was just starting, I had a Citroen with injection system. The injectors started to leak and I bought a new injector to replace the worst one. Cost $55 - the equivalent of about $500 these days. I was rather poor. I was about to throw the old injector into the bin and then thought "What's inside it?". So I carefully dismantled it and found 3 O rings of dirrering sizes. The rings were actually D shape but that could have been due to deformation in service. Anyway, I went to the local servo and bought 3 new rings for a total of 60 cents and then reassembled the injector. I then repaired the other injectors and they were still in service with the current owner until a few years ago. The Citroen injectors (Bosch) were easily accesible so I could check if they were leaking. Not sure if I would do the saem trick with a 6G74 unless I was desperate though....

        Report update.

Pulled injectors out Saturday to clean. Put them in a sonic bath with injector cleaner for 5 minutes then found a 5ml syringe that fit over end of injector. I.e. take plunger out and fit big end over o'ring. put straw from spray can in other end. No need to glue or anything, tight enough fit to seal well. 2 alligator leads on plug one connected to pos the other free to cycle injector. Youtube will show you how.

Squirt can, quickly cycle injector and you can see spray pattern getting better as I spray more. continue until happy.

go to fit injectors back in and notice the green o'rings I got in one of those ebay injector seal kits 6 months ago are turning to cheese. Just breaking up. This is my work car so am thinking oh, cr@p. Ran around sunday to no avail. Took the fiance's i30 to work Monday morn and dropped in to an O'ring mob at Brendale. 2 attempts later and I have the correct size rings made out of Viton so are fuel safe.

all back together last night and WOW. she runs now.

Reason I did work was she was running very very rough. hard to start, hills were a struggle. take offs struggle, just poor in general. Injector cleaner in tank would improve for a day or two then back to crappy.

At same time I replaced ignition leads and cleaned up spark plugs. I put cable conduit over leads as I got a boot from old set and wanted to protect them and me better.

Now, starts first go and pulls up hills like a freight train.

Almost happy to be driving it again. Now I just need to replace the suspension, brakes, steering, stereo, valve stem seals, paint. ..................

          Hi Burko,

sorry to revive an old thread.

Did you apply 12v to them or a reduced voltage?

          Cheers

I found that they opened fine with about 5v on NL, so I just used that. If you've got an old usb cable to cut up you could just use that with usb charger. I've got a bench power supply that provides multiple voltages that I used
