Paint chipping from handle (photo) - how to fix?

    Hey all,
the silver paint is coming off the inside of my door handles, after only a three years.
I've already spoken to Mitsubishi, they've said its 'wear' and nothing they will do.
Doesn't sound right to me but whatever.

Any ideas how I should fix this?
I'd replace it but its part of the power window switch.
I think I'll need to touch it up with some paint.

    See photos below.

Thanks for the link. Sounds like some paint from repco might be the go.

I'm going to pull out the power window switches this weekend and try using some silver spray (DS110). I'll put up some pictures.

              Cheers.

Awesome. So I don't need to remove the door card or anything like that?

                      Hi Pajeromack,

I assume you are going to lightly sand the plastic part before painting, you also should correctly clean/degrease the part so the paint has the best chance adhesion. Best to use Shelllite for this as it will not damage the plastic, just wipe over, do not immerse!

I suspect the most wear is on the passenger side front door pull rather than the drivers side even though the the drivers side most likely gets more use. 2 reasons for this are the passenger is more likely to be using hand cream which leaves a microscopic coating that builds up on the door pull and softens the paint and also more likely to have long fingernails and be wearing rings that easily damage the soften surface of the paint.

After painting the paint will take at least 2 weeks to fully harden and it may not ever be as durable as the factory paint finish. Looking at the front a rear left hand door pull trims , they look identical so they may be able to be swapped over if desired.

The Mitsubishi factory paint finish is probably the least durable paint finish I've ever had in the interior of a car. It barely lasted two years before being completely dissolved.

My old silver-painted Dell laptop had better factory paint.

                          That seems odd.

Gave it a shot with a few coats of the DS110 silver spray.

Finish is reasonable however the colour is not an exact match. It is a much brighter silver that looks like how I remember when the vehicle was new. It does contrast a little with the yellowed factory paint. Certainly it looks much improved than it did but I think it'll need a clear coat too. Have to do that when I do all the other ones.
