Has the battery been disconnected lately?

Using a home made disc will work fine, but once battery is disonnected you’ll need to put a genuine disc in to get it working before changing back.

Maybe try to find someone with a genuine disc to reset it.

His was working on a trip to Qld when it just cut out and came up with the "this is not original" bit. the battery was not disconnected.

Best thing you can do is remove the MMCS, tie some rope to itand use it as an anchor, because thats all its good for.

Buy a decent brand, eg., a Pioneer or similar.

See this post might help with your problem.

I still have MMCS but just using it for music via ipod, watching DVD while park and answering machine via bluetooth. Updated Map DVD (think Ver. 23) cost more than some Brand name GPS so no point updating it. Just bought a Garmin GPS w/ dashcam and Lifetime Map updates instead.

Eject the disk to check,. don't assume or guess
Have you tried ejecting the maps disk, pressing the O N O F F button and the restarting it all to see if it comes back to life?
As said up there ^^ you'll likely need the original Mitsu disk to get it all going again but after that there are a couple of threads/post around the forum linking to GPS dedicated forums where you can get later versions of the maps. The ones you can get from these forums DO NOT contain the files to run the unit, just the maps
