    Cheap ebay GPS

Looking for a GPS with reverse camera for the Wife's car.
Checking on ebay there seems to have been a sfift toward cheaper and more dodgy in the GPS market of late, the specialist suppliers I have used in the past seem to be gone. Replaced with suppliers that don't mention brand, or map supplier name, and include more maps that could reasonably fit onto the device .
My question is has anyone tried one of these, and what was your experience?

    With Thanks

I found myself in the same boat - Garmin gave up the ghost and I wanted something with a camera input, I couldn't find a brand name unit that suited, so I bought one of these

Camera is very good, set up to activate when reverse is engaged, works well every time. Don't actually use the GPS all that much - I normally know where I'm going - but the times I have it seems to work well - doesn't have spoken street names though.

It can be a bit slow to respond to things, ie day / night mode and it occasionally freezes. And every time I start up the car it feels the need to tell me "Lost Satellite Reception" before promptly finding it again.

All up for the money not too bad, and does what I need it to do. How long it lasts, we'll see...

I bought a unknown name GPS once - never again.

Garmin all the way now (its much better than MMCS as well).

These things need proper development & you get what you pay for (except MMCS).

If you want to stay with generics, Jaycar may be worth a look - at least you can see it in the shop & talk to a person.

hahaha...afte riding for 40+ years and owned heaps of high speed jap bikes. I settled on a fatboy. Motor been extensively modified. Speed is not the issue(good for over 200kph)...Bike is super reliable, economical, looks good, handles the highways well and feels right. Experience taught me to make up my own mind...not be a sheeple....

BACON....you are right. Even I often get things that I need because they are cheaper. However known brands and good reviews often get my attention...

                        Bought one

Thanks for the responses, there was one supplier I had passed over, I was thrown off by "pick up at BigW", and assumed it was just a tom tom or something with no camera. Apparently pick up at BIgW is anew ebay service.
Anyway I found a unit with genuine IGo software and maps, roughly $90 dearer than the other nameless brands. $90 is the cost of the IGo subscription. So it works out at the same cost really.

This unit is for the wife, and she never goes off the blacktop. I do own a Hema, for the Pajero, its OK, but not perfect, Ive been on the long way home a couple of times with it.
Buying a set of Hema maps would add another $180 to make the equivelent of what I have in the Hema for $400, compared to the Hema at $630. If I was looking for a off road system I would be seriously considering this option

I will put up a post later with a report on how well the new unit works.

I bought a $100 ebay 7" touchscreen GPS a few years ago and set about trying to work out how to use it. It definitely works as a GPS the only issue is that if its even a bit sunny you can't see the screen because the glare is so bad. I've tried putting an anti glare cover on it and using the cheapo shade that came with it but neither had much effect. Its in the draw next to me now.

Hopefully these screens have improved a bit.

                          Cheers

                            Update

Had the GPS in use for about 3 weeks now, Initially not too good in sunlight, fitted a sunvisor and turned up the back light and its OK now, even on the brightest days.
Reversing camera is Ok, not super high quality, I don't mind though as it does the job and is about the smallest reversing camera I have ever seen.
Using the wireless connection for the camera, its good except sometimes I look at the screen and see what the car next to us is looking at!
Navigation is Just like the hema.
The Hema is better in that it boots faster and turns itself on, going to navigation mode, where as this one needs to be turned on and then click on navigation.
The Hema just does everything just that little bit better.
Conclusion its OK. Would I buy again.... probably.

My Garmin drives me batty. For example, heading Sth the turn off in Brisbane for the ICB and Clem 7 off Gympie Rd (or whatever it is there), tells me to stay to the right lane on Gympie Rd to take the Clem or ICB. But if you want the Clem or the ICB, you want the left lane of Gympie Rd, then the right once youve exited for the Clem, left for ICB. If youre in the right lane on Gympie Rd and notice the error, you aint never getting over to the left unless its 2am.

Its far from the only one too.

Oh and 'at the next roundabout... take the second exit'. When theres half a dozen in a row, it gets maddening. Its straight ahead theres no need to say anything.
