I had the same growling noise after my airbag recall.

I was 100% convinced it was the clock spring as it sounded like it was immediately behind the horn pad.

Tried greasing the rubber boot and hey presto! The sound has gone.

It's amazing how the sound travelled too.

Also fixed on my 2010 NT 'ACTiV' by lubricating around the boot inside and out.

Can confirm that the Red Rubber Grease from supercheap fixed my 'rubber squeek' in my NT. Took 5 minutes in the parking lot of a servo between errands

X 2 for the red rubber grease from supercheap. Could have sworn the noise was coming from behind the horn cover..... this forum saved me hours of work and probably untold amounts of heavy fisted damage.

Hi guys...same issue here, and yes the moaning sounds like it is immediately behind the horn pad.
Anyway, I tried to grease it with some white zinc spray (the grease used in garage doors) but not a lot of luck.
Maybe I haven't sprayed it enough but wanna try something else.

Now, before buying the rubber grease from SCA like you guys did, I wanted to give this product a go since I already have a tube at home.

Should be ok what u think??? Don't want it to melt the rubber lol.
It is a plumbing grease so it should be safe....any plumber here that can confirm it lol?

Honestly, just rip to a SCA and get the rubber grease, probably save you in the long run and you'll know you're using something that's designed for the application

Ok did as suggested (thanks), so went to SCA and bought some red rubber grease.
Got home applied it all around the shaft also squeezed some in between the shaft and the rubber around it with a syringe....but after one day the noise is still there..
I have also applied a bit of silicon spray (just a touch behing the steering wheel and main support), this actually made it worse (it actually created another scratching noise)
Now, do I need to give the rubber grease more time to settle or what?
Just to make sure I have with are talking about the same noise, I have uploaded a video. Is this the same moaning you had?

                            Cheers

Not sure if this helps, but mine was more of a moaning noise than a squeak..

Mine was a moaning. Not really noticeable by wiggling the wheel. But could be heard while the car was running and i was turning into my driveway or parking at slow speeds
