    How is your quarantine going?

How is your quarantine going? I thought it would be a good time to spend it in the garage and working on my first project, but I can’t buy everything I need for this now, so I try to find useful activities for me. I began to read more, watched a couple of documentaries that I had wanted to watch for a long time, but there was no time for that. Now I don't know how I can overcome boredom. So tell me what you have been doing in quarantine all this time. What books and films have you watched? What games did you play when you got more free time? Perhaps one of you has found a way to make money during this time? In general, tell me how your quarantine goes and what you do to get benefit from this period!

Hi: exercise every morning - we brought the rowing machine out of storage just before the "lockdown" so use this; reading - combination of fiction and non-fiction, currently reading Negley Farson's "Caucasian Journey"; bought new guitar strings just before the "lockdown" so getting back into the guitar; painting, making a leather case for my binoculars; sorting photos; watching TED talks, history videos, and videos about topics which apply to my work; working remotely on converting Face-to-Face training to virtual training. Not a lot else...

Being a teacher I've been absolutely flat out with work. I'm meant to be 3 days per week but work load has basically doubled since teaching online started. Combine that with not being well....

Kids started back this week and I'm looking forward to things going back to more normal in the classroom. Meant to be first day with them today for me but I'm both sick and was waiting for covid test result, which came through just then as negative.

I did start polishing the car to get me away from the computer. Still haven't washed one side of the car, so that's looking just a little uneven

          ^^ This ^^

Apart from blowing some pre-booked annual leave locked up at home that my employer wouldn't let me defer, life for me is pretty much normal. Sans some road/camp trips, rationing TP to two squares a wipe and liberal use of hand sanitiser.

Lots of others haven't fared as well and I deeply feel for those.

In all seriousness, whilst my normal home life hasn’t changed much (as per that image haha), work life has.

I haven’t done the sums but I’d guess a 75% drop in actual work for me. On the plus, still got a job at the moment so that’s good! But some of my mates are redundant already or likely to soon be, unfortunately. My turn may come but I’m obviously hoping it doesn’t.

Got a few things that I can do around the house if I get really bored. But the PlayStation and tv are keeping me well entertained so I’m not at the “do things around the house because I’m bored” stage yet!

With the reduced level of work comes reduced changes between night/day shifts, especially multiple times a month. I am enjoying a much more regular and normal sleep pattern though, so there is that!

Quarantine? Oh yeah. I've quarantined myself in the shop and slowly working through about 3 months backlog. Even thought of sticking the "Closed" sign on the door to stop customers coming in and interrupting me.

So, for me, still busy as. Different story for my missus though. Her business has dropped to zero and she's the one who's going stir crazy. My biggest problem is finding things that she can do.

I was just getting over my open heart valve replacement surgery when we went into semi lockdown
Luckily we were still allowed to go outside for exersises so plenty of walking and gardening and to really test the ticker out I decided to repaint the complete house interior. I am on the last room now and all went well. I have also been giving SBS on demand a fair old workout.

My wife had to undergo radical abdominal surgery in a Sydney Hospital just as the lockdown started.. Since I have a severe respiratory problem, there was NO way I was going to stay anywhere near Sydney in general, and a hospital in particular, so I drove her down to the hospital, escorted her to the lift and returned to the car and drove straight home again. M2/M7 tolls both ways within an hour totaling about $25 for one day! Then, a week later I drove down again to surprise her and hopefully boost her morale because she was not recovering very well from the surgery. Another @25 for tolls and not far short of that for parking at the hospital, and then home again. Gee - a Pajero is magnificent for long drives - about 850 km round trip..

Then, out of the blue, the surgeon said that she could be transferred from Sydney to Cooma hospital by ambulance, and before I knew it, she had left the Sydney Hospital at 05:30 hrs and was in Cooma Hospital at 09:00 hrs. How's that for service? NSW ambulance to Mascot, Flying doctor (sub-contracting to NSW Ambulance) to Cooma Airport and then local ambulance to the hospital. Very impressed. No idea as to how much that cost, and if it is going to cost me, but in my current condition, whatever it took will be worth it.

So, how is the lockdown affecting me? Not really except that I now have to do washing, errands etc for my wife as well as myself. Visiting hours at the local hospital are 5:00 pm till 7:00 pm, which is rather awkward but we live with these minor inconveniences. Her recovery has been remarkable since coming 'home', so I think the move was worth the effort.

My wife's hours were reduced from 5x 8's to 4x 6's, she works in daycare. The boss got the job keeper approval this week so she'll be back to normal from tomorrow.
My life hasn't changed at all, in fact I've been busier at work than I ever have, and I am grateful for that, as there are many who aren't in the same position!
