    Blocking sender emails

    I realise this is not car related but I've tried everywhere else without success and thought someone here will surely know the answer.

    I use Outlook for my email and have a sender whom I can't seem to block.

    I have blocked the sender and the address shows up in the blocked senders list but his emails keep turning up like a bent penny and they drive me crazy.

    Its really crazy. I must have some setting set up that is allowing this to happen but can’t for the life of me sort it out. I’ve been searching on Google for an answer but no help there either.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    I don't have much experience with the "block Sender" function of outlook, but if can't get that to work, you could try creating a "Rule" under "Rules and Alerts". There you can direct messages directly to the trash depending on the sender address, or text in the subject line or email body. There are some other options for filtering in there too

      I use Outlook as well as yahoo. I am inundated in Outlook with emails from overseas for Viagra. I found out it's a waste of time blocking them. They send out millions from an email address. They stop using it and change one letter or number in it and send millions out two weeks later.

      There maybe a way to block certain words.

        Thanks. I think I'll have to create a rule. The inability to block a sender (whose email address isn't changing) must surely be a glich in programming. Seems ludicrous they haven't tried to fix it by now (I have seen this issue has been bubbling along for a while).

          Just create a rule. I,ve done it on Outlook and Mozilla. Very simple and highly effective. Just direct the e-mails to a trash folder.

            I have the opposite issue.

            When my boss sends emails from one particular alternative email address it always go to junk, no matter what rules I set or change.

            Biggest issue with that is it is usually invites to online meetings, meetings which now become proceeded by a phone call "Where the hell are you?"

            Have same issue with one of our depots when they email documents from their scanner to me.

              I only use outlook at work but setting up a rule seams to work the best for stopping unwanted emails.


              At home I use Tbird. In the past I've set up custom filters to get rid of unwanted emails but they still come in first before being filtered and trashed which I find uses up my bandwidth/download allowance so now I go direct to my webmail and block them there. This stops them coming to my computer to start with.

                After some further investigation and a few good replies, I think I can work out why Outlook wasn't blocking the email. In explaining this, please excuse the layman's language for I'm not an IT expert.

                My initial thoughts were this. My ISP is Telstra and their mail server sycnronises all devices which access the mail, by which ever mail program. (I have 3 devices and 3 different mail programs). So, I am guessing that to block a sender, it needs to be done at the mail server but it won't allow Outlook, which is on one of my devices, to block the sender because of the syncronisation. So, as noted, the only way is to get rid of them (or rather not to see them) is to create a rule in Outlook which deals with them when they arrive. I have noticed that when I open Outlook, the offending email will arrive fleetingly in the inbox and then disappear as Outlook applies the rule.

                However, subsequently, I have found that when I used my Android phone to label the sender as spam, I don't see them at all. Not sure where they go now.

                Anyway, is the above is not correct, please, someone who knows, feel free to rebutt or clarify. If right, I'd love to hear that, too.

                  That all sounds about right. The first email client to read the message will deal with it. If your Outlook client is only open for limited times, and your Android client it running all the time, the Android will likely process it's 'rule' on the email first. There should be be folder called 'spam', 'bulk', 'junk', or something similar that the Android client will send it to.

                    If you add the second email address to your contacts does it still happen?
