    Camping fridge precautions

I wasn't really sure of the best place to put this thread, but after the recent tragedy in Western Australia with a father and son dying from exposure to gas from a fridge while camping I'm wondering if those that know more details on the situation can shed some light for me.
Was the fridge in this situation a 3 way type fridge running on lpg and didnt shutoff when the pilot light was extinguished? (I think this was the case, but news articles didn't or couldn't go into too much detail at the time.) Or was it a 12v compressor type fridge that leaked refrigerant gas?
Is the volume of refrigerant gas used in 12v fridges toxic in this manner if it happens to leak in a confined space such as an enclosed trailer. Asking as I use my enclosed trailer for sleeping as well as having an 80l waeco running and have it fairly well closed up overnight specially if it is cold and/wet outside.
    Cheers

No idea, but given the number of 12v and 3 way fridges in caravans without issue, I can only assume it is either a 1 in a million ‘accident’ or a failure (equipment or user).

According to this article, it seems the leak was from their gas bottle, not the fridge.

It is sad indeed, poor buggars,

& hard to believe at this time of year there wouldn't be adequate ventilation either, but this link below suggests the LPG sinks & that is where we sleep in tent I guess, on the floor, generally windows don't go to floor etc.

I can only presume it would be carbon monoxide or LPG.

I onced lived with gas fidge & can recall when it sooted up fairly yellow sooty flame?
No idea of carbon monoxide load of it though?

Maybe parents had a few shandy's before bed as we do on Aussie day camping & child heavy sleeper no smell LPG gas??

Can't see how there would be the volume of R134A available in a fridge a fairly benign gas to cause such an accident?
