    NT tappets valve clearances

Hi team was wondering if anyone has carried out a service on their valve clearances not something I have ever done was wondering how often it should be looked at and if anyone has paid to have it done or DIY it before.

    Any information would be appreciated

    Cheers

Did mine a few days ago. I did it as I heard what sounded like a knocking injector at part load in 4th and 5th gear.

Even after an injector SQL relearn the problem remained.

So I did the tappets and the noise is gone. About half were out by as much as 0.1mm

The job should only be tackled by a competent DIY'er. Get it wrong and you can wreck the engine.

I reckon you can get away with doing them at 30k, 100k, 250k kms.

    intake spec : 0.10mm
    exhaust spec : 0.15mm

Should be done on a cold engine.

Seems to be general agreement on forum for first adjustment at 30k km..
I have mine adjusted at 60k intervals these days. Car has around 190k km on it.

I do mine myself but out of curiosity, what does it cost to get yours done?

Wright Street Autos cleaned inlet manifold and set tappets a couple of years ago. From memory I paid around $750 which included a new gasket kit.

I also get them to do a pre trip check over about once a year as I believe it is useful to have someone independent to do this check.

I do basic servicing ie oil change, filters, belts, grease front universal, coolant and brake fluid and leave drivetrain oils and tappets to others. Drive train oils and auto gearbox are on 50k service interval.

Cheers mate yeah that's not bad especially if they clean the inlet manifold as well I would be happy with that sort of price.

Doing my automatic service next Friday got it booked in 500 bucks for precheck and adjustments, road test new filter drain + mechanical flush of hole system.

Starting with the automatic service and working out from there getting it ready for a lap of Oz got a bit to do on the paj before we depart

It’s around a 4 to 4.5hr job, plus seal kit if needed, going on average labour rates
$500-$700 would be the range the seal kit is around $100

Cheers. Don’t forget the diesel injector rail pipes need replacement every 5th removal. Each is approximately $110-$120 RRP from Mitsubishi (and there’s 4). MUCH cheaper from Amayama or Partsouq though.

Got my valve clearances done cost me $330 got it done whilst I was getting my inlet manifold hot washed, couldn’t believe the buildup in the manifold make you wonder how vehicles continue to breathe.
Have also installed a catch can now.

trueblue, are you willing to indicate where you had that work done? Was the $330 in addition to the cost of the manifold clean? What was the total cost?
