Thanks to everyone for the replies. I'm keen to stick with genuine for now. Will decide next day or so.

Cheers,

Not sure about that Cracka as suitable aftermarket oil is around $200 for 20 litres then you have filter and labour.

I am sure Mitsubishi do not make their own oil.
When I went to a mitsubishi dealer spare parts t9 buy their oil filter I saw their Brand egine oil.
I asked who makes it and was told it is Castrol.
So I bought Castrol Magnatec much cheaper on sale from Repco.
I have Gulf Western full synthetic in my gearbox now and I tow a 21 ft fibreglass boat.
So far the gearbox has performed flawlessly.

Speak with a Toyota dealer/service place as the 100s auto (the 5 speed one) is the same. That's what I did and I got it cheaper than the local Mitsu dealer

APS used Gulf Western oil on ours as recommended by Wholesale Automatics. Seems to have worked fine last 2 changes. I noted the first change was very black at 93000km's non towing and the 2nd change and 3rd change fairly dark at 50000km's with mostly towing work, will change at 40000km in future.

Thanks
Where in Western SYDNEY are you?

Yeh mate a few,

My mechanic at Smithfield, Samtech, did mine for under 400, uses Mitsubishi Trans oil, full flush, take all my cars there, honest, perfectionist and perdantic, works on his own.
Automotive Etcellence at Riverstone, they do everything to do
with 4WD, I mean everything and are very highly regarded.
And for a Transmission Specialist, Craig’s Auto Transmissions and Alison Service at Chipping Norton, good wrap.
Something closer to you is Total Care 4WD at Seven Hills, again a 4WD specialist,
Good wrap.

My mechanic only uses Mitsubishi Trans Oil and he explains why, he says it’s not just a company oil like Mobil or Castro’s rebranded, Mitsubishi go to a oil company with their transmission specification and ask the company to make an oil that will suit the design, that’s not to say that any other oil will not work, it’s just the designed oil will work best.

Mate you can't do a full flush with genuine MM oil for $400. Don't know how much the Aisin box takes but the Jatco holds close to 10 litres and you would use more than 10 litres for a full and proper flush. If the filter is included in the $400 dollars the mechanic is working for nothing.

BTW. I think you will find that the genuine fluid is identical to a Castrol fluid. Don't know which one but I think it has been discussed here before with someone "in the know".
