Reverse lights always on NS Manual Diesel

    Hey guys,

Was away camping last week and noticed the rear cameras suddenly came on. Stopped the car, checked the rear lights, sure enough the reverse lights were on while the trans was in neutral.

Could not get them to turn off, had to disable the rear camera in the stereo and the mirror.

Tried to pull the fuse, but then had transfer case lights go out and diff lock light was flashing, so decided to put fuse back in.

Lights stayed on for days, until halfway home yesterday then the fuse blew.

Trying to work out what it is, can only think it could be the reverse light switch being faulty???

Any advice along with the switch location would be greatly appreciated...

    Cheers Nyc
    Thanks

it will most likely be the switch, in either located on the shifter assembly on top of the transmission or along the body of the transmission where the detent ball gets pressed, which could also be sticking if its an older rig.

The reversing light switch simple earths out the 12 V circuit. completing the circuit and thus lighting up the lights. If you have a fault to earth somewhere else (downstream form the bulb), it will look like the switch is on. You probably have a wire which has been pinched somewhere and is shorting out to earth. Since the current is going through the bulbs, it is a normal current flow and thus will not necessarily blow a fuse. Have fun looking for the shorting wire.....
