    NS alternator a smart one?

Just out of curiosity is the alternator in the NS a smart alternator. ie one that switches off supplying voltage when cranking battery reaches back to a threshold?

          You guys grumpy today?

I was hoping my question would prompt a response for the original poster...

The alternator is no smarter/dumber than most - it makes volts, and other technology separate but connected regulates the volts and limits the charge so your battery doesn't become overcharged. Not a techo response, if you want that read Goodsys post...

Not grumpy. Cracka asked if his alternator was smart or not.
Not how it worked. This to me requires only a yes or no answer.

Here's a link to one form of how a smart alternator system works.

Sounds like another bit of techno crap the ecu needa to get confused about

Soon mechanic shops will need to hire the design enginners to fix the mess they create
