    Surface rust bullbar bolt

    Hello,

I have a 2 month-ish old Pajero Sport with genuine MM alloy bullbar.

I noticed that 4 of the bolts that are part of the bulbar mounting, have developed surface rust.

I reported this to Mitsubishi during my 1500km checkup and they dismissed it saying something about Mitsubishi Australia won't do anything/accept a warranty claim for it, or something along those lines (a bit disappointing).

I just thought that it should not be like that and wanted it attended to but have left it for now.

I went to supercheap auto and they suggested "Evapo-Rust".

Should I go back to Mitsubishi or just treat it myself?

If I use the above product, should I also paint it in some sort of metal paint?

I wouldn't bother doing either... it's a bolt and, from the photo, it's not an issue

If you are worried about it just give it a quick spray of some matt black paint or something.
      Or some CRC / WD40...

I wouldn't be too worried. It's just that it is a steel bolt. If you're really worried you can replace the bolts with high tensile nickel plated bolts or stainless steel.

          Thanks for the feedback.

I was not sure why it started rusting like that or if it was going to become an issue or not.

I will probably treat it with some sort of rust neutralisation and then paint it one day.
