Why is this significant, Old Jack?. Is it to do with loading of the engine at idle.

It is significant because the first symptom of a bad fuelpump is low pressure at low rpm's.
That means it usually stalls when moving the shifter from N to D or R.
If you put your foot on the pedal and keeps rpm around 1000, it will not stall.
Typical symptom, I've had 3 Pajeros with worn pumps in my garage.
