4G54 balance shaft chain tension
Hi all, can't find any info on this so will ask and see if anyone has ideas. Have a 4G54 that I rebuilt after about 400k. It has done about 150k since rebuild and all 3 chain guides on the oil pump/balance shaft chain have flogged out. As I look at the setup, I'm wondering if I could run an idler sprocket on this chain and do away with the guides. 
Changing the guides involves taking the donk out and partially stripping the engine - not the sort of thing you want to cope with if you're halfway to the Kimberlys.
Has anyone done or seen a mod like this?
