    Pajero 3.2DID (2002) fueling problem

I am struggling with my 2002 3.2 diesel Pajero. It seems the vehicle is overfueling. I noticed that when you take your foot of the accelerator when driving, it gives a ball of smoke. When accelerating the vehicle feels as if it is surging, struggling to rev. When standing still and revving up the engine, it smokes heavily and it smells like diesel around 2000rpm. I was told by a few guys that it seems to be the high pressure pump that is faulty, a costly item to replace. What else can I look for that can cause this issue?

Have you had the ecu codes checked?
    Blocked air filter/intake?
    Check fuel filter?

Nothing yet, the problem started last weekend. It is going in to the local workshop next week to have the codes checked. Air filter is new.

Could also be bad injectors. Does it start fast, or do you have to run it on the starter some?
