Unhappy Unable to open rear door

Hi all

I'm unable to open the rear door. This has happened before but don't know how it was open previously. There is enough grease in the hinges, but the latch does not want to open.

Trouble is I have a cargo barrier and unable to get into the back through the slide window. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

The lock on my NH rear door did this sometimes, the problem was that the rear lock wasn't fully unlocked, I would just unlock and lock the central locking until it unlocked properly and the give a clean and lube when I got it open, hope this helps, Rhys.

Mine does this too. If you try to open it locked, then the mechanism sticks partially open and won't allow the rear door to then unlock with the rest of the doors. I then have to repeatedly lock/unlock the vehicle while thumping the rear door handle surround until the handle unsticks, then it can be opened while unlocked. Though I'm thinking its more the latch mechanism that's sticking rather than the handle, but thumping the handle surround takes out some of the frustration.

I ran into the same problem today. alhtough im unsure if i tried to open it while the car was locked but its very possible. But i am sure ive used the handle before while locked and its had no ill effects.

I tried unlocking and locking it with the Button and my key in the Rear door (which ive never used before lol) but nothing worked. so i left it for an hour or so and when i came back and unlocked the car on the Button it opened.

I did notice the 'lock' display on the inside next to the handle was basically stuck in the middle and wouldnt slide across when i was trying it.

Might be a case of taking the trim off and greasing everything up while its still good.

I will give it another go tonight. If it still dosen't open, I will take it to Mitsubishi and tell them to fix it cuase they designed a crap door latch lol.

This happened to us in our NM at Inniminka of all places. This is what we did. Move the back seat forward, undo the cargo barrier, slide the barrier forward, squeeze thru the gap, remove all the plastic crap, get a screwdriver into the mechanism, belt it with hammer and pray, spray heaps of lube. Luckily for us it worked. On our recent trip we encountered heaps of bulldust. I now shove a plastic bag in the latch and apply tape. Its a pain and does the job but is better than your current situation.
Good Luck

On my vehicle, it is possible to access the cargo barrier mounting points through the rear sliding windows to undo the barrier and shift it for access to the boot area in these circumstances. A bit of a squeeze, a twist and a stretch (need to lose a few kilos) but manageable. I can just maniplate the rear window catches from around the edge of the cargo barrier but once that's done the mounting points can be got at. Mine's an NL.

After squeezing between the window and the cargo barrier and dual battery, I finally got inside the cargo area. Took apart the door intrernals and managed to get it open. Very very lucky I don't have the camping gear in the back or the fridge.
