NS or NT for my next car?

    NS or NT for my next car?

    Hi all.

    I'm still really enjoying my NL SWB Pajero. It is absolutely fantastic on sand. But the 6G74 is thirsty on the daily commute.

    It's time to think about my next step in the Pajero journey. It will need to be a diesel SWB. But should it be NS or NT?

    I will be using it for beach work, towing my 600kg tinny and daily commuting.

    There are more NS cars around. But the NT has more power and torque.

    Good advice appreciated.

      And why is that tonee? Is the NT a better towing vehicle or something else?

          Better transmission, stronger and less prone to break. Myself and a few others on this forum have busted the transfer case and I think all on the same Jatco set up (NP/NS).

          The improve power and torque is more refined with a slightly better fuel economy.

          I've always said to myself not to buy the first generation of a model but unfortunately there aren't many to choose where I live. NT is the "fixed' model of the NS.

            I have an NS but would rather an NT without the DPF. Just one less thing to worry about, especially with my driving pattern, not doing routine long runs
            2007 NS Pajero GLS Diesel. Factory rear diff lock. Custom rear bumper. Custom side steps. Kaon and ASFIR bash plates. Cooper Evolution MT tyres. Couple of CB radios. UltraGauge. Provent 200. Traction control diff lock mod. ARB Comercial bull bar with custom brush bars and Domin8r X 12,000lb winch. Dobinsons and Kings raised springs and shocks. TJM snorkel

              Did the transfer case change?

              I thought they were same, or at least same family, from NJ through to current.

              Only change to auto trans.
              PCOV Member 1107.
              Daily driver NX GLX
              Semi retired NL GLS 3.5 (no airbags) in almost prestine condition to replace NJ.
              Virtually fully retired NJ 2.8TD
              Previously - NB LWB, NA SWB.

                You may be right, I've been shopping for new transfer case but it seems the later models doesn't fit the NS.

                  And I very rarely have more than just myself in the car. Although I'm hoping to get the wife interested in beach trips and a bit more fishing.

                  The wagon has appeal too. But the SWB is the go for me.

                    NS here. Purchased new 2007. Now over 330,000k on the clock

                    Problems.

                    First six months problems with DPF. Two ECU updates and no drama since.

                    Rear main seal leaking replaced under warranty. NTs also had rear main leaking.

                    The transfer case also busts on NTs so my guess is they are the same. There are a few threads here on the NT case. Ours hasn't.

                    SCV, glow plugs and swirl valve replaced. That's it.

                    The price you save on an NS to a NT will buy a lot of fuel.

                    As for torque and power they are 4X4s not sports cars.

                    We average around 10.5 litres per 100k. 8.5 from Brisbane to Sydney via the M1.

                      I went with a later model NT just because of power and torque and I didn't want DPF. That is important to me as I like having a bit of fun on the beach and around corners on the dirt. 180+kw and 550+nm torque is easily achievable at the engine. Only thing to watch out for is rust around roof, door and boot seals. Soooo much rust
