Goals goals goals.
I decided to start building up a first gen monter 4 door here in the states to ship down and tour australia over the next few years. Part of me is like why not try and source a second gen 4m40, but eh, I love the first gens. I'm currently trying to source a 4m41 common rail engine with manual transmission to swap into the rig. GOtta get my post count up to post up in the wanted section though. Anyhow, so far, I have 2 superwinch winches. Plan on installing a 9.5 talon in the front, and a older 9000 in the back. I'll be using a second gen 9.5 factory air locker rear end, and probably second gen braks on the front. I'll be locking the front with an arb air locker, and I'lll either be putting 33s or 35s on it. Undecided there. The rig was a v6 automatic it's currently been gutted of the old turd of a engine and trans. As of now, my largest hurdle is just trying to source a engine and find someone willing to ship it to the us. We didnt get any of the mitsubishi diesels state side, and australia seems like the best bet to source one if I can just find someone willing to ship the engine setup. I'm hoping to finish up the rig next year, but it mostly depends on when I get the drivetrain sourced. |

Thanks, biggest hurdle right now is just sourcing the engine and transmission, sitting on 6k usd, and I cant even spend it lbecause I cant source a engine lol.. I suppose I could buy the arb front locker, but the engine is the most important part as of now I think.

Absolutely no idea of the details, but can't you source used engines straight out of Japan? Here there are businesses that specialise in secondhand replacement Japanese engines.

No one stateside is importing them because there really isn't any demand. Since we never got a pajero with a diesel, it doesn't make much sense for any japanese engine importer to bring them over.
I"ve looked all over the damn internet, and the only place I ever see them for sale is australia. |

Was the 4m41 ever used in gen 1 pajeros in Australia? Just thinking that if you have to register it here you might have to get engineer certificate to do so. Probably depends on which state you register it in also. If you don't need to register it here then it's not as big a stress

A closer market for you to source a drivetrain might be the UK. It's always been a big market for diesels and in significant numbers. There are plenty of wreckers and used spare parts places around the country.

I don't believe I will have to comply with licensing there. As long as it's not staying in country. I will have to look at the laws a bit closer, but from what I read I shouldn't have to comply as long as the vehicle is temporary |

Good luck with the build, if your sourcing the 4d56 check the bravo and ford couriers that got that engine. otherwise head straight to japan my man, easiest and best way, plus cheaper.
