    New GLS NX

HI I will be taking possession of a new NX in a week and wondered what additions I should do first and whether it will invalidate warranty. Thinking of the following. Any others?

    1. Fuel Manager pre filter 30 micron
    3. ProVent oil catch can

Fuel filter, catch can and EGR blocking device all excellent early mods. But what do you intend to use the vehicle for? I would argue that if you intend going off-road then intercooler and sump bash plates should be very high on your list.

Absolutely agree with Ian H. Once you've stopped the EGR flow (would the Munji work on the latest vehicles, as they need a greater resistance value?), and the catch can, your new engine will stay clear, rather than gunked up with crud.

I am buying a new nx glx and asked the dealer about the catch can - response was it would void warranty.

          Cheers

I will ask my dealer today about catch can, fuel filter and EGR block. Will report back.

I wouldn't be asking about the Munji mod. They are technically illegal because they bypass the emissions jaws.

Properly installed, a catch can will not void your warranty and is not illegal.

EGR bypass is illegal and may do so (can't think off hand what it might impact sufficient to do so however). Best solution, for me, was plug and play plug and socket which can be installed and removed in seconds, so when you go for service you just remove and put back in afterward.

                    Re Second Fuel Filter

I'd suggest a filter that is at least 3 microns with 95% plus efficiency with good water capture as per Parker Racor recommendation for CRD.

Do you mean having both a pre filter as well as a secondary filter like:
                      fuel tank > 30 micron pre-filter > stock filter > 3 micron secondary filter > engine?
Wouldn't that choke the fuel flow or pressure?

You should just have the factory filter (which I think Hill estimated once as having about a 10-12 micron pore size) plus ONE of EITHER a 30 micron pre-filter (the primary filter) OR a 2-3 micron post-filter (the secondary filter).

There are good arguments for each of the pre and post options. DieselCare is a vocal supporter of the post filter (2-3 micron) option, whilst Berrima Diesel is equally sure that the 30 micron pre-filter is best. Have a look at the information at:

... and come to your own conclusion. Personally, and given I installed mine from new in a vehicle under warranty, I opted for the pre-filter, but many others on the Forum have chosen the post-filter and the sky hasn't fallen in on any of us (yet).

I know little about engines but my common sense tells me that I should go with pre-filter. The stock filter should be optimal for filtering fuel before sending fuel to the engine. Mitsubishi engineers would have done their calculations. My only concern about the secondary filter is the flow (either volume or pressure) may be reduced and this will impact performance. I am an accountant so I don't really know what I am talking about!
By the way, did you have issues with servicing department when you have the pre-filter?
