    Injectors could be a cause.....
I paid about $200 a piece for new injectors when I had mine done in 2010. Labou was probably about 4 hours or so at a guess.
If you get them done, have the valve clearances checked and the upper timing chain guide replaced at the same time while the lid is off the engine.
    Cheers, Dan.

I had mine done at approx 150K (when the pump died and was done so i thought i may as well get it doen at the same time rather than any particular need to get it odne. It wasn't cheap; approx $1100 for removal, sending to Sydney Diesel for redoing and reinstalation.

Be warned however, it turned into a bit of a disaster for me; the dealer broke an injector bolt when reinstaling the injector and the broken bolt couldn't be removed from the head so a new head followed, along with more broken bits when installing the new head...!

Anyway, I spoke to the machine shop the dealer sent the old head to (dealer tried a mobile helicoil bloke who couldn't get the broken bolt out so they sent it to their machinse shop who also couldn't get it out). According to that shop, its not uncommon for steel bolts to get stuck in alloy heads / blocks / sumps etc due to the differnt heat cooling / expanding contracting properties of steel and alloy.

So, from that expereince i'd caution people on whether it need to be done and who does it - i'd reccomend punters take it to a specailaist diesel shop rather than to the local mechanic or dealer; those specialist mechanics would, i imagine, be in a better position to tell you whether it really needs to be done, and if so, be more experienced at doing the work so less risk of stuff ups in the workshop.
Gone: 2004 21st Anniversary NP DiD Auto with 215ks, EcoShot diesel gas, bullbar, drive lights, snorkel, UHF, 2nd battery + Redarc isolator & wired for fridge + trailer Anderson plug, Mits 2.5 ton towbar, Lovell 50mm HD springs + shocks + Polyairbags, torque converter lock-up.

Selling some touring kit - see Marketplace

Arrived: 2011 Discovery 4 2.7 TDV6 - The difference is amazing... Paj definitely designed in the 1990s and at a lower price point!

Any mechanic with a scan tool should be able to tell you compensation readings of the injectors and be able to tell you what's what if they have access to specs, and yes dissimilar metals can be fun.

Not on the NM / NP DiD they won't be able to! The NM / NP just uses dumb mechanical injectors.
I think you are thinking of a common rail injection system.......
          Cheers, Dan.
