    Recovery points on OEM towbar

Dumb question: the OEM towbar on my NW Pajero has two rings that looks like recovery points, but I am not sure if they are rated or not. Does anyone know if it is safe to use them as recovery points? Attached picture.
In the past I have used a hitch recovery receiver but now the towball tongue is permanently stuck (rusted) in the towbar. I use a drop down third wheel to beach launch a small boat trailer without getting the car wet, and then I recover the trailer with a snatch strap. I was planning to put a large d-shackle on one of the two rings, but I want to make sure I am not doing anything stupid 😊
Maybe they are only tie-down points?

I have wondered that also. My tow hitch is immovable also so I removed the towball and put a D schacklr in the hole where the towball was. This works fine and a recovery expert said it was all good.

Also asked a tow are specialist to remove the rusted tongue and he said it was cheaper to replace the whole tow bar.

    Cheers

It’s not rated, but how much force does it take to get your trailer back? If it broke it would sling toward the trailer. Take the snatching precautions and don’t have anyone where they could get hit /if/ it were to break.

Don’t snatch cars off it and don’t get snatched off it. I’d trust it with pulling a trailer though.

Pulling the empty trailer is not an issue, but I am a bit concerned on the way back, when retrieving boat and trailer (about 800kg) with the trailer being fully immerged and with axle potentially sitting on sand.
It needs a fair amount of force to pull everything out of the water. Worst case scenario I won't kill anyone but I may end up with a hole in the boat :-)

If its the factory tow bar it replaces the factory rear tow points with the metal loops. My personnal preference is to use a hitch mount recovery point though.

My NW has a factory tow bar and still has the metal loops. However these are now used for the bushskinz rear bumper protector.
