    Front end click/clunk/crack

    Dear gang,

Im just trying to get a heads up on a front end (left side) issue. When turning left into my driveway or similiar scenario, I get a click/clunk and sometimes crack sound with feedback through the steering wheel. What is this likely to be? I would like to have some idea before taking it in for repair.

    Thanks in advance!!

Not sure it would be your problem, but quick & easy to check. I've lost two nuts from my front swaybar link on the passenger side, and Pajero12 had one come loose. I can't remember if they use a 17mm or 19mm spanner, so grab one of each and crawl under the front.

Excellent suggestion mate and it is indeed a 19mm. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be the problem. I checked the nut on top of the steering linkage arm (which is protected with a split pin) and that was secure also. Could a CV cause similiar symtoms? I would have thought it would not give feedback in the steering though?

Cv was the first thing that sprang to mind. A stuffed one will affect steering so I'd expect to get some feedback through the steering depending on how damaged it is.

Feek! Hope its just the sway bar rubbers. Ten years old nearly, could go either or both ways!

Do you have aftermarket underbody protection?

If they slightly work loose, it can cause creaks and noises like you describe.

                I’d check they are tight.

Possibly CV joint. Check for the noise in 2WD and 4WD. If different case, it points to the CV. Is the noise there all the time, or just when the wheels are at an angle? Stuffed CV joints tend to clack clack when they are loaded at an angle, but can be quiet when in the straight ahead position

                    Intercooler plate seems tight enough.

Noise tends to be only when turning left, such as into my driveway. I will try flicking it into 4wd tomorrow and see what happens.

                    Thanks for all your suggestions!

Hello Op, did you end up with a solution to this noise? I've got the same issue and I'm really hoping it's not the expensive CVs. Ta
