Extras on the nt paj & bright ideas

    Hi Guys,

We are awaiting delivery of the NT Diesel Platinum Pajero. I have a couple of questions about extras on the vehicle.

Has anyone got the Sports Racks? Do they fit the watercraft attachment for kayaks? (There appears to be two sorts of roof racks). Do you fit in u/ground carparks and garages okay with the Sports racks on?

We are getting the Mits tow hitch and wheel lifter. Does the Hayman Reece adjustable head for your WDH fit in okay and does it hit the wheel at all? (?'m sure it must be alright, or there would have been a revolt by caravanners!). Thought I'd make sure, anyway.

Do the rectangular IPF Driving Lights fit on the Genuine Mits alloy bull bar okay and does the bullbar have pre-drilled mounting points?

I must say having the 12 volt point on the right side away from the door seems silly to me. You have to run your fridge cord right across the car. Weird. I think we'll get the auto electrician to fit one on the left side, with an anderson plug, like the earlier models. Why do they have to change things that are already working well?

Any other tips from owners, would be great.

    Thanks and best wishes,
    Sally

The 12v socket in the rear is not suitable for running a fridge. The wiring is too thin and you get too much voltage drop. Better to run a new cable from the battery to the rear. This will also be handy when you fit your dual battery system later..

PS. Wire it with a Hella socket.

        Hello Sally,

I have Pro-rack whispar bars on my Paj and they are the type that don't sit any higher than the roof rails, also have Thule Kayak cariers which slide into the Pro-rack. Also I don't have a problem with the plug on the RHS, I put the fridge on that side and you can always get to it from the back seat if need be. The original plug works ok with the fridge, I used it that way for a year before I got sick of having to leave the accessories on to run it. Eventually ran 4mm wire direct from the battery to it and to another fridge plug. (just too busy to do it earlier)

The weight dist hitch will fit ok with the spare tire lifter but
you might have to lower it down or modify handle on the trailer hitch so you can open the back door.

Another thing you can do to add height is to repossition your trailer hitch if it is on top of your draw bar cut it off with a gas axe & weld it underneath. Might give you a bit more height. I did this with my trailer after measuring the difference & it solved the problem.

Thanks for all the tips, guys. Looks as though we won't be able to open the back door anymore, when hitched up. But suppose reaching through the back seat will be okay. Everyone else is in the same boat!

              Regards,

You SHOULD fit a cargo barrier which would make that a bit awkward. Won't the spare wheel lift kit solve your problem?

I tow a 23' Jayco using the Hayman Reese bar and WDH and found with the van and car on level ground I just couldn't open the tailgate. The spare was hitting about 5mm down the handle on the van coupling. With the lift kit from Mitsubishi it now clears by at least 50mm. My van is set up with the standard height, it is common with Jayco vans to lift them for better ground clearance but this means lifting the hitch resulting in the spare hitting again.

One thing I will be fitting to my NT when it arrives in December is a roof console fro department of the interior.

Its a great place to put the radio and other bits and pieces.

I've been looking at Cargo barriers but my understanding is that if you have side airbags then so far a cargo barrier hasn't been approved yet to work with them.

We had one fitted by dealer to our NT with side airbags.
The top of the cargo barrier angles back quite a bit toward rear door, so you have less cargo space. Is Milford/Mitsubishi branded.

Will live with less effective cargo area as safety priority with kids in the back.

About the spare wheel lifter: 5cm made a big difference to towing a Jayco Eagle Outback with standard hitch.

Previously hit the handle of hitch.
Now hits the jockey wheel, but planned to replace that anyway and get one that tilts to horizontal when not in use.
