    Timing Belt Replacement

    Hi,
This is a bit embarrassing as it shows once again my mechanical ignorance. I have NS SWB diesel auto.

I just had a quick look at my service book and noticed that is states that at 100,000km that the timing belt and iridium etc spark plugs need to be changed.

I rang the dealer who did my 90,000 service to see if they did it then (as got the 105k done by non-MM).

They told me as it was a diesel this did not apply as there was no timing belt.

I just don't know and prior hunting through the forum gave slightly ambiguous answers to this.

So can any one confirm if the NS DID has a timing belt or not

I'll answer this in the vein of a genuine query... but if your winding us up....

Diesels do not have spark plugs. They also do not have a timing belt but do have a timing chain, which does NOT need replacing in normal service.
    Cheers, John.

      John,
No winding intended. Just ignorance on my behalf.

      Thanks for the reply.

Hi I'm new to the forum and this is my first post
My 2008 SWB DID NS service book states timing belt needs replacement at 75000 km service
Just found out DID doesn't have timing belt

Might be worth your while to replace the top timing chain guide, these are known to wear/fail on the NM/P with a few K's on them.
A search in the Gen3 section will bring up a few results on how to change it and check your tappet settings, one or two pics in there aswell.

Outstanding, I didn't realise they don't have a timing belt either - That's an extra grand or more for other goodies from my wishlist

I am glad I am not the only one who didn't know the answer to this one.

Small point (but I'm a picky thing). I'm not sure if you just mean Pajero Diesels ? Mitsu diesels dont have timing belts, but a lot of other diesels do. Toyota 1HZ, !HD's (and variants), 1KZ and so on for example.
