    Automatic transmission service interval

Does anyone know why the AT fluid change interval on the MY18 Pajero Sport is much shorter than that for the preceding models?

MM website gives AT Fluid change intervals of 180000/90000 (Normal/Severe usage) for the MY16 ; 195000/90000 for the MY17 and 90000/30000 in the MY18.

You would hope that there is some difference in the build of the transmission or the fluid being used for the intervals to be different.

    Any ideas?

    Fluid life

My guess is that real world experience indicates more frequent changes are needed.

I also believe most places doing 'fluid changes per the book' are just draining and refilling the sump not flushing the entire system.

Dealer ATF "services" can be a problem. Just draining the transmission sump leaves about half the old fluid in the torque converter. This contaminates the new fluid when the sump is re-filled.

The proper way is to drain the sump, refill with new ATF, then crack the line to the ATF cooler, start the engine and pump out old ATF in the converter, then top up to the correct level.

Best to get it done at a specialist auto transmission centre.

        ATF Change

Has anyone had the Automatic Transmission fluid changed in their PS?

Just to clarify for anybody who finds this thread via Google in future, like I did. I believe the OP confused ATF for transfer case oil. The MY18 Pajero still has a 195,000/90,000km replacement schedule for ATF, as do both the MY19 and the new MY20. So nothing has changed.

I think there may some crossed wires here:
OP said Pajero Sport, but I think some posters may be referring to Pajero NX? Totally different auto boxes, so probably very different fluid intervals?

Once again, I have failed to notice the category a thread is sitting under. Very sorry. Thanks for pointing this out. I use Tapatalk almost exclusively. I would prefer it made the category more prominent instead of small light grey text.
