DON'T GET CAUGHT OUT! 'This is what happens when you use a basic Relay Style Lock-Up Kit and not a Pulse Width Modulated system like the GEN 2 Kits. On most modern vehicles this solenoid is a bit of a tricky one because it applies with 13.5 volts (Battery voltage when engine is running) then over the following several seconds very slowly backs down to 7 volts on arrange and then starts to modulate. This is done for 2 reasons, 1st regulate clamping pressure and 2nd to keep the valve in a constant state of movement which stops the valve from becoming stuck. While the valve getting stuck is not so common it is done as a precaution. On some vehicles this is very important. This can also be done by producing “dither” a technical term used when voltage is deliberately made to dither or wobble slightly. Please note that wobble is by far not a technical term but rather a better explanation for lack of a better word lol. All vehicles have now gone to this system although voltages change from make to make and some have been doing this for more than 10 years, this includes the Nissan, Toyota and Mitsubishi. And yes we learnt the hard way and this is why we had to build the Gen 2 Lock-Up system that suits all models.

Where exactly would that burnt solenoid be located? Is it generally mounted in a housing on the side of the transmission?
Is there any problem running your PWM kit for an extended length of time on the highway (Like an hour or two) I had issues with the GEN 2 Wholesale Auto's kit when fitted, due to the resistor overheating after 20 or 30 minutes of constant lock-up, it's been all good since the resistor was changed. So just wondering if the length of time the lock-up switch is engaged is something we need to pay attention to?
There aren't too many spots we can leave it on for an hour two, but WA has some long stretches where it is possible.2012 NW Activ with all the fruit, stripped what I could for my new build and handed over to the Mrs as a daily driver.

The PWM Lock-Up Kit can be run for as long as you want. The problem is only with the home made relay systems. The Gen 2 has been so fine tuned and can run the solenoid safely all day every day. These solenoids are found attached to the valve body inside the transmission pan. RodneyThe valve body upgrade specialists.

I used the kit extensively on our Adelaide to Perth trip towing a camper. A little unclear on when I SHOULDN'T be using it (it dropped out of gear on some of the bigger hills when cruise control was on).
Kept the transmission temps around 60-70 instead of nearly 120!

Had my lock up fitted for approx nine months now and use it constantly while towing my camper, apart from better fuel economy the auto stays a lot cooler particularly up long hills and in sand, never had any issues. Also had a full flush and fill using synthetic oil.
Happy with mine.
