    4M40t throttle position sensor

    Hi all,
On a 4m40t manual, does anyone know what the sensor is for? the only thing I can think of is the EGR (which is long gone). Can this be removed without causing any other issues, or does it serve other purposes?
    Thanks in advance!

I have replaced it 2 times and still cant get it running perfect... Both are not Mitsubishi ones tho...

Bugger. That's annoying. I'm sure there's a procedure in the manual to getting it right in case you haven't found it.

You sure it's the tps causing issues? I read in the manual that the ecu doesn't rely much on the tps, for engine running at least. Not sure how that relates, but just thought I would mention it

Im pretty sure it is... Fault code says it is...

First time it happened I took it to an auto trans specialist as I thought it was auto box related. Auto changes were getting slower and a miss.. He put the code reader on it and it came up with TPS code
... So we changed it... Car ran better for awhile then started showing signs of same issue again, so off to a different fellow and he said everything is fine and just re-adjusted it a bit as he said it wasn't set quite right.. Same issue, but not as bad, so with his knowledge, I got a different brand TPS..
Both were NOT MM brand mind you... They are Too bloody expensive...Over $400 I was quoted..

Still I have an annoying flat spot... Right where you have say 1/2 to 1% throttle when cruising in traffic... Apply a bit more throttle to speed up and I get a miss then car is fine... Can be annoying in traffic, but I have learnt to live with it. Now the jolt of the miss has given me backlash in my diff now .. about 10mm and I don't want it to get any worse or im up for a new centre as well...

But I thought when this topic came up that I might comment and see if any ideas come to members minds...

Sorry to the OP, I don't want to hijack your Thread...

To test and adjust a newly installed TPS.

TPS connected, key in ignition position.

Get a voltage reading at 2 of the wires.

At idle reading must be 0.1V or just a little above BUT not lower.

At WOT reading must be 5.0v or just a little below BUT not higher.

The TPS sends signal to the Transmission Control Module to tell it how much you are applying gas to the engine.

It is translated by the TCM like when you are WOT it downshifts and stays in a gear longer to maximise the acceleration.

And when you're gentle ion tha pedal it shifts earlier and engages OD earlier too.

                My fault

I didn't even read your car details to see it was an auto gemster, would obviously be needed for gear changes. Have you thought about trying a Magna throttle body and tps from a wreck? The tps is different, but throttle body will bolt on fine

Are the diesel ones the same? I know of someone who just removed theirs from a diesel

Thanks fellas, the 2nd fellow I went to set it to those settings that were mentioned... He said that the Factory one is superior but he has had no issues with the one fitted now... Im changing motors soon and I don't want to carry this issue over to the new motor... But it may come with one fitted anyhow..

Geopaj mentioned that the Magna one is the same, but cheaper... Its annoying more so in heavy traffic than on the open road.... But i have learned to live with it...

Thanks for the generous offers of trying the other ones.. I will have a think about it...

                            Has the EGR been removed?

EGR has physical plate installed to block passage of gas.
