Has anyone had issues with gates drive belts? I bought an NS 3.8 petrol, put on new generic idlers and tensioner from onlineautoparts on. Then put on a new gates belt. Was fine in summer. Lately on cold winter mornings the fan belt slips for a few minutes, but is fine when hot. Tension seems strong (I even tried applying extra tension on the tensioner while idling but no difference).
I put on a Dayco w-belt today, made the same noise. Old (not very) gates belt had some contact marks in the roots of the vees at some locations, could the crank pulley be worn out? The rubber on the harmonic balancer is fine, no cracks, no slippage there.
Slip is mostly around idle (just above normal idle, but slightly below cold idle, so cold idle speed once changed into reverse). No change air con on or off, no change with electrical load or steering load.
Someone said alternator bearing, surely that would be always noisy?
