After removing the spare the other night to install the lift I soon realised I needed nuts so that prooject went on hold. I then decided to mount an old mining cat flood light on for some better lighting at night when reversing/camping etc. It's a bit big and ugly but I'm not one for aesthetics more practicality. Anyway I can easily change it to a nice little led in future. Yes car is filthy from dirt roads and roadworks atm.

Good idea.
Did you wire it into the rear bright red tail light?
Not sure what the correct name is for that light.Duncan

Yes I have for now. I haven't looked up it's rating to check what load it can handle. But I did remove that red light bulb you refer to to reduce the load on that circuit. I would call that light a rear fog warning lamp?? So it runs off that switch below the front fog lamp switch. And only works currently when the lights are on- which is good as the kids like to touch everything when my wife isn't looking during the day

FWIW, we used the rear fog light switch and cable to power a relay mounted in the tail light assembly cavity. Through that relay we ran heavier cable from the front of the car and which eventually ran to the rear work light via the relay. Still only works, though, when the vehicle lights are on.
That way, no heavier current loads on the existing MM cabling - the relay draws SFA.
The rear fog lights we then converted to an extra set of brake lights by simply hooking them into the existing brake circuit. Works a treat and provides extra redundancy with the brake lights.

How did you manage to drill that hole?

Cheers. I am guessing you then use that hole to feed the power cable.

From a terminal block installed near the battery, down to a chassis rail (‘98 NL) then along that rail to the rear and up into the tail light cavity where the relay is. Then back out and into the bottom of, and up the inside of, the extendable pole upon which the light is mounted.
Cable was put inside that corrugated conduit for some protection and secured with heavy duty cable ties. Was done about 7 years ago and there have been no issues.
