DPF & now stuck in limp mode

Great way to start a weekend.

The speedo died about a week ago, no worries, new one on order should be here in a few weeks. Just driving by the GPS speedo.

Yest day the dpf light came on (bit weird as there is no dpf) and then went off. Came on again today on the way home then, BAM, limp mode (dpf light flashing and engine light on). Crap. Turn car off, turn back on, took off all good and then BAM again into limp mode.

It's my only mode of transport and it does 100km each day at 100km/h. Car had 267000km on it now, NS auto diesel.

So how to get it going again? Can I pull one of the exhaust plugs and get it going or does it need a mutt now to clear it?

    Cheers

ECU can't log the Km with no speedo

Can't exactly remember but it has to be in drive then do a certain distance to get to operating temps and then the burn process begins
One way or another the km is tied in with the burn would have to read back up on it to confirm.

Interesting though, if it seen the temps it wanted would it of completed? I should pull my speedo out and test it

most ECU's I don't think even log km, only the ones fitted with DPF.

You will need a mut now

        Thanks stoneman

Maybe I should try the resistors you sent up.

Will have to have a sick day on Monday to get it into a steeler.

actually ecu will still log Kms without a cluster installed if you have a scan gauge you will see this

the only way for no kms is broken speed sensor

It's the speed sensor that died a few weeks ago.
$211 from the steeler, $25 delivered on aliexpress!

Trying to buy a mut3 now as its to much of a pain to deal with the steelers.

Yeah speed sensor will be connected to the ECU

Apart from the initial outlay the mut is handy to have

New speed sensor in last night. Speedo still doesn't work.

I'll get the mut hooked up tomorrow with a bit of luck and start playing.
Hoping to identify exactly what is wrong and get it sorted.

Mut all hooked up and working after a few small technical issues.
Dpf regen done and dpf light and engine light are no longer on. 1 problem fixed.

Speedo sensor isn't providing any input value. Will remove and test as per manual to see if it is the problem or if there is another issue in the system.

Turns out the speedo sensor is fine after much annoyance.
It's the bit inside the transfer case. It's all scratched up and has some bits missing from feeling around in there.

Will pull the back off the transfer case tomorrow and have a look what's going on in there. Hopefully an easy fix as I can't imagine a new one will be cheap.

Transfer case was a bit damaged inside upon removal of the rear housing. The sensor rotor that provides the points for the speedo sensor to pick up on was destroyed by some fragments of metal floating around. And then on further investigation it looks like the TC may be terminal, I'll strip it down when I get a chance but I think it may have chipped some teeth at some point.

Got lucky and picked up a complete TC for $100 from a wreckers and put that in today. Everything works except the 4LLc. Hoping its just the switch on the top of the transfer case (I have 5 spare now) but it may be the shift actuator (1 spare of these to now). I'll take it for a drive round the yard to see if it's going into 4L tomorrow.

                        Was both.

Mut testing showed error 33 (4LLc switch) however Actuator testing made me here that the actuator was not making any noise when going from 4H to 4L.

Pulled the actuator off and manually selected 4L and the dash lights still flashed (confirming switch was stuffed) so the switch was replaced with one off the old box that worked.

Then pulled the actuator apart off the old box and swapped it onto the new box. Some small issues getting the gears to all line up, but once done tested fine.

All the gears change perfectly, all the lights work perfectly, and the speedo now works again.

                        Job done!
