    Radome Antennae Pros

I broke my GME 4018K1 antenna recently actually rattled it off the ferrule on corrugations.

So looking at a replacement, I learn that the antenna I had is light duty and not really recommended for corrugations.

One of the options rather than a replacement whip is to replace the lot with a new base. What I haven't been able to determine are the benefits of a radome antenna versus what I had (elevated feed fiberglass whip).

Specifically the GME 4700 range (noted as "Raydome"). Given the price differential it's gotta be better right?

GME advise that the GME AE4018 K3 is the "most heavy duty elevated feed style UHF antenna" in GME's range. I purchased one of these for this very reason, but have not yet tested it, so can not confirm how well it will stand up to corrugations.

The toughest and most reliable antenna I have used is a 4dB flexible dipole which is mounted on the right hand side of the roof rack. At about $30 it is also a bargain.
