  • Transfer Case Mount

    Hi all,
I'm not overly experienced with modern (post 1990) 4x4's and I'm just wondering if my transfer case is supposed to have a mount. From what I can see underneath there is nothing supporting the transfer case itself. Can anyone tell me if there is supposed to be one and if so, send me a snap of what it looks like because this thing is hanging free and I can shake it with 2-3 inches of movement. I'm not sure if that's normal either..

The transfer case is an integral part of the transmission casting, and is supported by the transmission mount on the crossmember below, and the mount further back towards the tailshaft.
If you can shake it around 2-3 inches, something is seriously loose somewhere.
    2010 MY 2011 VR-X V6. Stock standard.

Previously 02 NM auto V6 Exceed silver. Extra transmission cooler & transmission temp gauge, activated rear lights, Impco sequential LPG system, Redback (Wildcat) Headers, heavy duty radiator. Lovells shocks F & R, Polyair bags in rear.

My original Pajero experience - '90 NG Superwagon, 3.0 V6 manual bought new and kept until 1998. Great vehicle, no problems apart from the noisy valve lifters typical of that engine.

      OK thanks Gaz1..
From what I can see, there is absolutely nothing mounting the transfer case at all.. The gearbox is clearly mounted and they are in good condition but moving rearward from that there is nothing mounted to the chassis or the body. I just need to know what it looks like so I know what I need to fix...

Hi Lance, these are the best I can come up with as in I'm assuming there'd be something bolted somewhere.. I'll jack it up and try and get some clearer images..

Just to clarify things for you.

There are 2 engine mounts (1 either side on the engine and then the transmission mount on the cross member at the gearbox. You are correct that there is no mount on the transfer box.

In the first pic posted above, that is a dynamic damper and there may be another one at the end of the tailshaft at the rear diff. Dynamic dampers reduce harmonic vibration.

So in short nothing to worry about bud.
