    Gearbox removal

So what's easiest way to get gearbox out?

    Complete with engine attached?

Obviously if I convert auto to manual need to alter flywheel etc as well but just curious as never removed a Pajero/shogun gearbox or engine

At 45000 km, I had a new clutch fitted under warranty in my NL Pajero. The dealer simply removed the propeller shafts and the rear mounts and slid the gearbox/transfer case towards the rear of the car about 65 mm, and then removed and refitted the clutch assembly from there. Sadly, I doubt that they machined the flywheel face, which is why the clutch was shuddering in the first place. I finished up by ultimately getting an extended warranty on the clutch, but this was never invoked. When I traded the car in years later at 235000 km, the clutch was still in perfect order.

If you want to leave the motor in place, pull the center console and remove both gear shifts as they bolt in from the top. There is a fixed bracket at the rear gearbox flange that will stop you as it jambs there and the gear shifters as well. The auto loom connects under the radio, disconnect it there and pop the gromet through the floor. Saves you removing all the switch connectors
      Cheers, Dave
