How to check NT pajero auto fluid level?

Just wondering how to check the transmission fluid on a NT 2010 pajero.
Suspect since it does not have a dip stick it needs to overflow out of the filler plug?

If anyone can confirm this it would be great?

    Matt.
    Hi Matt,

From the online Service Manual Section 23C -On Vehicle Service- Essential Service - ATF level check.

    AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION<V5AWF>
    GENERAL INFORMATION
    SPECIFICATIONS
    LUBRICANT(S)
    SPECIAL TOOL(S)
    TROUBLESHOOTING <A/T>

    A/T FLUID CHECK
    A/T FLUID CHANGE

1.Earth the diagnosis connector terminal No. 1.
2.Pull the parking brake lever, and start the engine.
3.Depress the brake pedal, move the selector lever from the P to D range, and then move it to every position by holding 2 seconds or more at each range. Repeat this cycle twice, and then return the lever to the P range.
4.Move the selector lever (N → D → N) within 1.5 seconds, and continue the operation until the A/T fluid temperature warning lamp illuminates. After the A/T fluid temperature warning lamp illuminated, return the selector lever to the P range. The warning lamp goes out within a few seconds.
    note
    Note;
The status of A/T fluid temperature warning lamp shows if the fluid temperature is suitable for the fluid level check.

Warning lamp is off: The fluid temperature is 39°C or less, thus checking is impossible.
Warning lamp is on: The fluid temperature is between 39 to 46°C, thus checking is possible.
Warning lamp is blinking: The fluid temperature is 46°C or higher, thus checking is impossible.
When the ambient temperature is low (10°C or lower), move the selector lever to the P range, warm up the engine for 15 minutes with the engine speed of 2,000 to 2,500 r/min. Then, the fluid temperature becomes approximately 40°C. In such case, after the fluid temperature increased, leave the engine idling for 5 minutes, and then check the fluid level.

5.Remove the filler plug and the overflow plug, and drain the fluid from the overflow plug hole.
    6.<When the fluid is drained>
Wait until the fluid becomes oil drops, and then tighten the overflow plug with a new gasket and the filler plug with a new O-ring to the specified torque.
<When the fluid is not drained>
Fill the fluid from the filler plug until the fluid is drained from the overflow plug hole, and wait until the fluid becomes oil drops. Then, tighten the overflow plug with a new gasket and the filler plug with a new O-ring to the specified torque.
    Tightening torque:

    20 ± 2 N·m (overflow plug)
    39 ± 15 N·m (filler plug)

      Thanks guys,

Just another question or 2 in regards to the procedure.

1- From the instructions, once the fluid is at the correct temperature you perform the check.
So you perform this check while the selector is in Park right?

      2- vehicle must be running?

      Thanks in advance....

After cycling through the gear selection several times, leave the engine running and the trans in Park, then remove the plugs as per the instructions.

Is the engine diesel or petrol? The petrol NTs have a dipstick to check the fluid level in the Jatco transmission, the diesels with the Aisin transmission do not have a dip stick.

My original Pajero experience - '90 NG Superwagon, 3.0 V6 manual bought new and kept until 1998. Great vehicle, no problems apart from the noisy valve lifters typical of that engine.

Just chucking in my "two bobs worth", after having followed these instructions and successfully done the job.

It seems to be quite important to get the temperature range correct. If it's too low, it won't tip any excess out of the overflow. Too high, and heaps gushes out. Once I was satisfied the temperature was within range of 39deg to 46deg, I consistently got an excess of half a litre, which was about what I expected when I was doing the refills.

I didn't have any electronic plug in equipment to monitor the fluid temperature, but an old fashioned bulb type thermometer with the red mercury in it (or whatever they use) left to sit in the fluid after I drained it, did the job nicely.
2010 NT Pajero diesel auto, RX specs. (Basic GLX with a bit of bling such as rear air conditioning) Stock as a rock.
