    Help!! Pajero won't start!!

    Hi All,
I drove down to the shops yesterday in my Nh and when I came back to start it agian, it would not start. It is cranking over but will not fire.
I thought it was the fuel pump stuffed so I went to the auto shop and got a new one.
I pulled the old one out and put the new one in!! Still no go.
I got a mate to tow me home.
So now it is at home and I am going to check over everything before I have to send it into the work shop$$$
If anyone has any advice on what things it could be, that would be great, as I will be starting checks to try to eliminate things that it could be.
There is petrol in the tank and the battery has full voltage.
    Any help would be great.
    Steve.

If it has an immobilizer, that could bugger up and stop the car from starting. Otherwise check the ignition fuses.

        I've had those symptoms...

I know you've changed the Fuel pump but there's a small chance that it could be a loose electrical connection within the plugs on the fuel tank.

My Paj would only start if someone tapped those connections with a pole - as I turned the ignition over. There's a couple of photos at the following link.

Try disconnecting the battery for about 1 minute, then try starting it. If it starts then the computer is reset......but i think it also means the computer is on it's way out. I had this problem with my first NL. It did this about 4 times over a 6 month period. But before it became a major problem the car was written off.

If you haven't already fixed it, my money is on the ignition module. It's what used to be the coil in older cars. It sits on top of the plenum chamber about even with the alternator.

              Hi All,
Just an update on getting the Pajero running.
I have checked most things on my list and also the ideas posted from this thread.
Fuel system is ok as I used the plug that u can overide the fuel pump with a jump lead from the battery and you can hear the fuel in the fuel rails.
the rotar is turning while the engine is cranking, so all seems good there. Also checked the power to the coil and all is fine.
All I have left to check that there is spark.
Then I will check the control unit. Just hope it is not the ECU but in most cases when it is the ECU is poked the car starts sometimes and then sometimes it wont.
Thanks for the ideas though guys.
              Steve.

Spark would've been one of the first things I would have check for because it one of the easiest things to check.
                Remove #1 plug
Connect the lead to the plug
Hold the plug against an grounding point
Get someone else to turn her over.

If there's spark, you'll see it.

                  Hi All,
Just an update. Checked power to the coil, and it has power. Found that There is no spark comming from the coil. I have been reading past threads about the Cas, ignition coil and all the other little things that make it up.
I will just have to test everything and work my way up the list. Hope I dont have to get to the ECU
                  Hope track it down soon.
                  Will keep you all posted.
                  Steve.

                    engine want start

Hey Steve it's Jecki i have had the same problem and it ended up being a problem from the fuel pump or something to do with amount of fuel pressure down the line, go to a diesel specialist as it was a hard to diagnose sorry i can't give the exact detail but it was a years ago.

                      Jecki,
                      Long time no see
Mine is getting petrol to the fuel rails, just no spark. I just borrowed a ignition coil and a transistor module from a mate. Still no luck though.
Just pulled out ECU and I found a fried conponent so I will be checking that out. I have an ECU sitting at the wreckers. He wants $250 for it. even if it is not the problem. it wont hUrt to have a spare ECU.
Have you been getting out gold detecting and sluicing.
                      Catch up soon buddy.
                      Steve.

Pity you're not closer to this side of town. I have a spare ECU from a rolled wreck I have, and you could have tried it to make sure it was the problem before handing over your hard earned.
Chances are, with the rotor button turning, and you've swapped the coil, and still no spark, it'll be the ECU. At least it's an easy thing to get at and change.

Just another update on the Pajero!!
I Just got a ECU from a wrecker for $150 that he said I could try for a week. Well put it it in, and still is not cranking and also no spark. The only thing left for me to try is replacing the dizzy. I am hoping that it is the crank angle sensor.
My other Ecu had one of the caps melted (no C28 on the circut board)
                            Hope this works.
                            Stay tunned Folks
