I'd still think we'd have seen them near our camp area. Plenty of cooking (more so than at Eli) gets done at camp areas so more chance of scraps etc...

Unless the dingoes were at Eli for the eye candy too.....

We saw 3-4 dingoes around Waddy Point last year, and chased one off that was stalking another family's kid who was climbing a sand dune with no parental supervision

About 30 seconds later it reappeared about 100m away, stalking a guy fishing with his two kids...

Personally I'd camp inside a fenced ground until your kids are aware of what's happening around them and big enough to be able to shout off a dingo that's hovering around...

We spoke with the Rangers about the one that we'd seen stalking kids, and they had had a lot of other reports about it, and I think that dingo was on borrowed time as a result

I camped at Dundubara twice with 4 kids both times. Peace of mind the first time as all were very young.
The time of year your going it may be very quite and there are some large sites to pick.

My first time we also had booked two nights at the fenced central station camp.
Due to a storm coming in the rangers closed the camp (tall trees in sand) and let us camp at the picnic ground.
When we were in camp of a morning and night we spent lots of the time throwing pine cones at the dingoes....
Also came back to a ripped open tent That dingo didn't have long left according to the ranger...

I was at Dundaburra May '17. Peace of mind with a 2yo and a newborn.

Didn't see any dingoes around Dundaburra but a Red Belly Black snake made its way through the camp site one morning.

I'd also keep a close eye on the lizards stalking for scraps. I reckon they could make a nasty injury on an inquisitive little camper.

Thanks for all the comments. As we have 2 Labradors at home, the young fella has no fear of big dogs. looks like Dundubara would be a good option for a maiden trip.

                From the Taipan

Besides an abundance of sea snakes (which are deadly but bites from them are EXTREMELY rare) on Fraser Island it also has some of the worlds most deadliest land snakes.

Coastal Taipan, Eastern Brown, Eastern Tiger, Death adder, Roughscale snake.

Other venomous snakes on the Island less dangerous are Red Belly, Pale Headed and the nocturnal Small Eyed snake.

There are others of no consequence Marsh Snake, Yellow face whip Snake, Golden Crown and Bandy Bandy both nocturnal.

Plus the many Pythons and Green Tree Snakes and the Nocturnal Brown Tree Snake

I've never seen a snake or shed skin on Fraser over multiple trips...

I have no doubt they're there, but I tend to think if you make enough noise most snakes keep their distance...

There were some massive goannas floating around when we were there last year though...

I saw a tiny little one in a tree. Have no idea what sort it was. Pic below though, sorry I couldn't rotate it to a normal way.

                      Look into Waddy

Dundaburra will be closer for day trips but Waddy is i little more open ... dundaburra seems cramped (dirty)and mozzies can be an issue due to lack of breeze

It's a green tree snake. They come in green, blue, yellow and motley light brown. Our venomous snakes aren't tree climbers bar one.

Hmmm. After downloading the photo and slightly enlarging it and looking at the head my educated guess is it's a red belly. Very hard to be 100% from the photo but I reckon it's 99%.

Don’t know what happened to the second pic

Indeed the belly was quite red. I was about 2 steps from being on top of it before I reversed direction. It seemed completely unfazed. We’ve been trying to train the boys (well just the older one really for the time being) to freeze and call out snake. I don’t know if it would work tbh but you gotta try.
