I,ll bet he thinks all the oil will drain from the filter.

Not quite on topic, but many years ago, my father bought his first car - a 25 yr old 1926 Chev tourer. Naturally, it used oil - lots of it. Neither my mother or father knew anything about cars, and when it came to topping up the oil they used to pour it down the dipstick hole. When told about the oil filler cap, they wouldn't believe it because there was so much smoke coming out of that hole and they were scared that the engine may explode. Years after learning about how to fill the engine, the mechanic asked them if they had ever checked the gearbox or the diff. "Why, isn't that fed from the engine?".... Luckily, I learnt a lot about cars and engines , but certainly not from my parents.
