Yes this is true the Lock-Up wont work in 1st gear for the NT onwards models unless you have the Heavy Duty Nomad Valve Body fitted. The valve body allows lock-up in 1st gear not to mention it has its own advantages.

So for pre NT models (ie NP) it will work down steep hills in 1st gear without the valve body upgrade?

Yes this is correct. The Original 5 Speed Pajero transmission was the V5A51 transmission and from NT onwards they changed to the V5AWF made by Asin and this is when the change was made. I still highly recommend the Nomad valve body for both but from a Lock-Up in first gear point of view the early transmission works in 1st gear as it stands.

I can recommend the valve body upgrade, it makes a significant difference to the way the vehicle drives http://www2.pajeroclub.com.au/forum/...8&postcount=26. No link to WAT, just a very happy customer
