that gives you more choice as they flares allow wider rims, as Pauly said, check the wreckers ar buy some steelies or do a search on here has been discussed a heap which patrol/landcruiser/ hilux rims etc fit
so are plenty of options

yes . so 1 inch larger in diameter will still be fine. most of the time it all boils down to what tire proflie are you fitting to a particular rim size. in this case of the freebie 16 inch tires, as long as the profile is suitable compared to what your running on your car now ; 15 x what tire profile ? say a 15 x 75 profile will end up about the same total diameter as say a 16 x 70 profile.

16" will be metric tyre size. So an example of what dolphin is refereing to is 265/75r15 is around the same as 265/70r16.
Metric is width/ratio/rim and r is for radial belt ply. Ratio is the profile and is the percenrage the wall height is of the width.
I work out like so: width divided by 100=xxx, xxx times the ratio which now gives you wall height, wall height times by 2 to get the total wall height, divide by 25.4 to convert to inches, add the end result to the rim diameter and you have the total tyre diameter.
