Default MM fuel filter

Just purchased a MM fuel filter from our local dealer - $ 99 ouch.

Was told by others that it is preferable to purchase a genuine filter because they have a much better micron rating.

Have I paid too much?
Is the MM genuine filter better option

What micron rating does the MM filter have? I know the Ryco Z699 has a 5 micron rating.

Benny.

that's about the going price (next time ask for trade discount if you can get it)

There is a thread around here somewhere about fuel filters, done by Hill I think, and it has a whole bunch of info re micron ratings and efficiency of some filters.
I think (don't hold me to it tho ) that the OEM is somewhere around 10um.
The Ryco and AC Delco filters are pretty close together at around 4um.
The Sakura filter is somewhere around 6um IIRC

I've found this site to give pretty good x refs to other filters that fit/suit (you might need to click on Equivalent(cross) further down the page to see the list)

Jhale

A little background reading from a few years ago to answer your questions.

The Ryco Z699 has better specs than factory.
