    NT Headlight removal

    Hello

Replacing the headlights in my NT due to them going white (UV damage).

There are 3 obvious mounting points accessible with the bonnet up and
    the grill off.

But there is also a hidden fixing that is below the blinker and faces sideways
    to the car.

Problem is, how the heck do I release them in the area next to the blinker?

I can feel a Phillips head screw up there in a tunnel in a large white plastic mount but which also appears to hold the top of the bumper. Can't get the light out because I can't get to the screw, can't get the bumper off because same screw appears to hold it?

See photo. This is looking straight up inside mudguard.

    Thanks
    Doug

Before you struggle with that, have you cleaned up the lights, I used a light cutting compound and it has helped keep the lights clear for 12months so far.
    Some have used toothpaste !!

The screw doesn't hold the bumper bud. The bumper clips onto that. You have to remove bumper to remove headlight.

Have you looked at online tech manual in Do ItYourself section, has exploded drawings as below along with steps how to do things.

Too late, I already have the replacement lights, so will have to put them in.

Thanks for that. He doesn't detail how he actually "unclipped half of the flare and half of the bumper", but now I have read that I must have been so close to getting it.

I did look under the flare and could not see any access hole that lined up with the bolt in question, so maybe I need to release more of the flare?

I have just found a link to that Russian site that has the manuals and apparently there are 4 clips on the front of the flare and the rest is held on with double sided tape! Must be one heck of a strong tape is all that I can say. I wonder if it is reusable or is that foam backed type that self destroys when you remove anything?

You only unclip just enough from where it alignments with the bumper, I think 2 or 3 clips from memory. Dont remove the whole flare anx a thin plastic trim tool is the go.

Aussie - thanks for that, will have another go. Didn't want to force it and break any clips and then not be able to use the car over the weekend.

I recognise them as the ones I struggled with on the flare.

                    Thanks for the photo.

I tried easing the flare out but the clips would not let go. In the end the clips pulled out of the flare rather than the hole in the bumper.

Luckily they are retained in a slotted hole in the flare (rather than a round hole) and did no damage. Despite the strange way Mitsubishi can go about things, you have got to love the fact that they do seem to try to provide a quality product.

I have however ordered some of those plastic button stud things off ebay that hold the grill and splash guards on as some had gone brittle and failed getting removed.

When removing the wheel arch mould you need to give it a short sharp yank, making sure that you are pulling straight out, never at an angle otherwise you risk damaging the retaining section on the mould.

That you pulled the clips out of the mould was more good luck than good management, given that those little strips of plastic are very easily damaged.

If a clip remains in the guard always use a proper clip remover to remove it and place a small metal plate between the clip remover and the guard so you don't dent the guard when levering out. Usually rocking the clip a bit first will start to release it.

When re=assembling fit the clips to the mould first and make sure they line up with the holes before pushing in.

Thanks for the information. Everyone has to be lucky sooner or later I suppose!
