Tail shaft has slack what's the problem?

My tail shaft has play in it. When under the car I can rotate the tail shaft almost half a turn. The yokes are fine and there is no play from front to back. There is no oil leaking from transfer case. I have to release the clutch slowly to prevent the tail shaft banging when it comes under load. What's the problem please?

End freeplay in the diff. Likely excessive ring gear to pinion backlash which can be fixed but you'll need a diff/gearbox place so they can check the diff.
