3.5 v6 replacement

Hi,
Does anyone know if I can replace my engine from 2001 NM Exceed with a Magna 3.5.
i have been told that they are a high compression motor & do not goes so well in the Pajero.
is this correct or is it just a scare tactic to make me rebuild my old engine.
Any help would be great as mine is pretty gutless as soon as it sets sight on the slightest hills.

From my limited knowlege of Pajero's I am lead to believe that they (NM) have a 9:1 comp ratio just like any 3rd gen Magna 3.5 (bar the Ralliart engine).
